Project Finance and Infrastructure Financing

Project financing is the financing of long-term infrastructure and industrial projects based upon a complex financial structure where project debt and equity are used to finance the project, rather than the balance sheets of project sponsors. Usually, a project financing structure involves a number of equity investors, known as sponsors, as well as a syndicate of banks that provide loans to the operation. The loans are most commonly non-recourse loans, which are secured by the project assets and paid entirely from project cash flow, rather than from the general assets or creditworthiness of the project sponsors, a decision in part supported by financial modeling. The financing is typically secured by all of the project assets, including the revenue-producing contracts. Project lenders are given a lien on all of these assets, and are able to assume control of a project if the project company has difficulties complying with the loan terms.

Hampton Court's infrastructure financing practice is one of the leaders in the field, helping both public and private sectors to develop and finance infrastructure projects in new and innovative ways. Our Unique Selling Point (USP) is we are able to combine China’s largest infrastructure firms in its respective fields with our financing program.

We can support these clients throughout the infrastructure asset lifecycle. We advise public and private parties on the primary procurement of infrastructure based services and, in the secondary market, we help to maximize the value of existing infrastructure assets through refinancings, mergers and acquisitions.

Case study:

Securitization: A large project loan could then be broken up into several smaller pieces which could then be bought by insurance companies, individuals, banks, pension funds, etc. each of whom would have other diversified investments.
